Proposals of Chancellors of Universities Related to Legislative Package on Higher Education and Science

On March 12, the legislative package envisaging amendments to the Law on Higher Education and Science and a number of other enclosed ones was debated during the working meeting initiated by the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport and the RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport (ESCS) Vahram Dumanyan.

The NA deputies, the representatives of the ESCS Ministry and the Chancellors of the Universities were present at the debate.

Before, according to the agreement reached with the Government and with the proposal of the author of the package, the deputies voted against the above-mentioned package. The debate was moved to the stage of introducing the written proposals.

The joint proposals were related to the chancellors’ election, the accreditation procedures of the higher educational institutions and the validity periods of the certificates, the principles of the institutional and programme accreditation, the conditions of their licensing and other articles of the legislative package.

The proposals that have been voiced will be debated at the upcoming sitting of the NA Standing Committee.
